So I am getting close to releasing my retro-inspired (but not pixel graphic) arcade ufo shooter. My goal was to create something that looked awesome with tons of little ufo ships to shoot at. I got a bit carried away with all the physics stuff, so all my ufo's blow up into pieces which fall and collide with everything else causing lots of chaotic joy.
Of course the penalty is that while this runs without issue on my 6+, it is super slow on my old iPod Touch 5th gen.
I figure I have 3 options:
1) Rework the game to tame things down on older devices - but I'm not going to do that because that would be way to much work and this is frankly a fun hobby only.
2) in the app description, call out that for older devices this won't run very well (not sure if apple will complain about that). My main concern here is for people that don't notice that in the description and are then upset...
3) require the device support metal. My app doesn't use that, but that pretty much eliminates all old devices. The only issue is that I know it runs quite well on the iPhone 5, but that would get excluded.
I'm rather inclined to go with #3, and then if sales are beyond my wildest imagination, then I can look to work on #1.
