So using code I got offline I put together this:
daveRunSG.position = ccp(self.contentSize.width/2, self.contentSize.height/2);
Now what I am used to is something more like this:
daveRunSG.position = ccp(150, 109.5);
So I went ahead and did that with my sprite (which is animated) and it made the animation play very strange and fast like this:
