Hey everyone! I'm happy to announce that the v 3.1 release candidate is available for download. We feel that this is a really solid version and it's likely this will be the final 3.1 release!
Version 3.1 comes with a completely rewritten & faster renderer and much improved connections between physics and animation/actions. Please try this out in your game (do a backup first!) and let us know if you run into any issues. If no major problem is found in the next week, this release will be declared the final 3.1 version.
SpriteBuilder 1.1 is also very close to a final release and we are trying to finish up any outstanding issues in the coming week. I'm super excited to share all this with you and we will have more exciting announcements to come soon!
Great release, lots of goodness in this release. Auto batching!
Congrats to the Cocos2D team and a thank you to the Cocos2D community for your continued support.
I have some short docs on the new renderer here:
I've (mostly) made a tutorial project for 3.1 shaders too. It starts out for complete beginners, but it has some intermediate examples too.
@slembcke can we include the Rendering Guide in version 3.1 of https://www.makegameswith.us/docs/?
Sure, go for it.
YES! I have been so looking forward to this and seeing how much the FPS improves of 3.0. Thank you for your time and great effort!
Super excited! Great work!
What's the best way to go about updating an existing spritebuilder project to 3.1?
Cocos2D 3.1 only works with SpriteBuilder 1.1. If you want/need it today, you can get the SpriteBuilder 1.1.0-beta.2, it will automatically update Cocos2D for you. The final version of SpriteBuilder will be out soon, hopefully in a week or two.
Ok awesome! Thanks vik.
Very excited! Great work!
