Create a new Objective C Class in your project, in the "Choose options for your new file" window, type CCSprite in the "subclass of" textfield. Type the name in the "Class" textfield (e.g. monster).
in the monster.m -(id) init method, create the CCParticleSystemQuad and add it as a child of the monster class just like how tbone28 shown above.
when you instatiate your monster class, your new monster will have a CCParticleSystemQuad built in to it. Just call the particles' reset function to activate it.
